DETAILS

The ‘lockdown’ forced a delay to this walk originally planned for the end of March. So now May 17th is my 4th day of walking the Leicestershire Round in a series of circular pub walks which, when added together will complete the whole circuit. This walk will start and finish at the Hercules Revived pub in Sutton Cheney. This restaurant boasts a high standard of food and service and with a price to match, I am hoping for a very enjoyable dining experience – perhaps a little better than the average pub meal; and with a 13 mile walk beforehand – I think I’ll be ready for it – but now it looks like I’ll have to wait a while – still it’s gonna be fun catching up on all the missed bar meals once everything settles down.

Route Map - Leicestershire Round in Pub Walks Day 4
Leicestershire Round in Pub Walks Day 4. Route from Hercules Revived, Sutton Cheney

I’ll be setting off at around 10.30am. The total walk is just over 13 miles and covers about 5 1/2 miles of the Leicestershire Round. I’ll be stopping for refreshments at Shackerstone – a little under half the total distance will have been covered by then. I should be back at the Sutton Cheney about 16.45pm and ready to tuck into some lovely, well-earned pub grub. I may have a bit of a wait for food though as I believe the restaurant doesn’t serve food until 6pm. I’ll be starting on the Leicestershire Round at Sutton Cheney and heading north to Market Bosworth – as I have plenty of time, I may stop for coffee here too. I’ll then continue north via Carlton to Shackleton where I’ll stop for some more refreshments. The journey back is mostly along the tow-path of the Ashby canal so nice and flat. I leave the towpath at the Shenton Aqueduct following Ambion lane back to Sutton Cheney.
