This is a re-run of a walk that I’ve done before. Start and end at the Elms, Lutterworth for a bar meal. If you are interested in coming please contact me asap for more details and to book a table.
Meet in The Elms car park at 1.30pm.
Walk approx 7 miles, leisurely (last time it took us 3 hours at a modest pace)
Dinner at the Elms at 5 pm.
Mostly fields with some roads. We’d better bring clean boots and may a change of trousers for the bar meal.
FOLLOW THIS ROUTE
Here is a description of the route if you’d like to follow it yourself.
Assuming you’ve parked your car in The Elms Car Park, head out of the car park to the main road and turn right towards Lutterworth Town centre.
Go past the pedestrian crossing and, as you start to go up the hill take the next turn right.
Continue to the bottom of this road where it turns into a footpath. Follow the footpath signs heading for Misterton.
At the old railway embankment bear slightly to the right and continue until just short of the motorway. Turn left here and follow the footpath turning right across a motorway footbridge.
After crossing the motorway turn right and after about 150 yards turn left onto a marked footpath. After a further 150 yards bear right and follow footpath signs heading towards the church in Misterton.
Enter the church grounds and exit through the gate. Turn left for a few yards looking for a footpath marker that will take you to Walcote. At the time of writing, this route was furnished with a number of tributes commemorating soldiers who fought in the first World War.
You’ll enter Walcote by an adventure playground. After passing the play area, bear right on the marked footpath. Cross the main road and follow the footpath into fields opposite. The footpath crosses the field diagonally toward the far right corner.
Go straight across the next field and then bear right as you enter into the next field. Continue on this footpath for just over half a mile crossing several fields.
Cross Swinford Road and continue on for another 1/2 mile where you’ll turn right onto Lutterworth road, Shawell. Follow this quiet country road underneath the motorway and on to the junction with Shawell road. Here you’ll turn a sharp right, almost doubling back, and then follow the road as it turns left.
After Spinney Farm, the road takes a sharp right, but you’ll continue straight onto a country lane which meanders its way around several fields. Look out for a rather beautiful lake on the left. Take a few minutes here to enjoy this spot but watch out for a marked footpath on the right which you’ll take into Cotesbach after crossing the main A426 road.
Turn right when you get to the main road in the centre of Cotesbach and then turn left by the church. Follow the footpath markers through several fields and onto Lutterworth Golf Course. Be sure to ring the bell before entering the course, and take special care while heading in a direct north direction across the golf course.
This is a public right of way, but please show due respect to golfers and watch out for straying golf balls as you cross.
When you get to the top end of the golf course, you’ll follow a footpath sign out on to the main road – the A4303. Cross the road and follow another footpath sign which will bring you out by the entrance to The Elms car park.
